Match report for Wilmslow Albion Reserves 2 - 0 home win against Bury Amateurs (17/01/2009)
Not a big match report from the game. Player scores attached.
It was good to be back and playing after such a long layoff over the Christmas holiday period. Our pre-Christmas good form continued with a third straight win and second clean sheet.
A lot of industry in the first half, but little guile or sharpness of play materialised. Maybe the layoff or the heavy pitch were the cause. The defence were solid enough to nulify any threat and the main chances were all from the Albion, Tom Hackett notably flashing a diving header just wide.
That all changed in the second as we began to find our tempo from the off. Eke capped off a captain's performance with the opening goal of the match, fifteen minutes into the second half, to finish off a team effort from ten yards. At the other end we were lucky to escape penalty appeals. Controversially, we were then awarded a pen 15 minutes from time, when the defender took more of the ball than the man. Josh finished with aplomb, taking his chance after Nay was off the pitch. The ref was big enough to admit his mistake after the game to both teams, after an otherwise exemplary and free flowing performance.
Its good to be back playing football and with a bit of new year luck. Our footballing friends from Bury joined us in the bar after for a pint and to chew the cud. All the best to the lads from Drinwater Park for the rest of the season.
