Match report for Wilmslow Albion 1st Team 3 - 1 away defeat to Stand Athletic (17/01/2009)

Albion 1st team suffered a 3-1 defeat away to stand Athletic on Saturday. With conditions more suited to Rugby than football Albion struggled to find there passing game. A day which started out bad, with manager McGuire having to sweep out the away changing room, in order to make it at least bearable and 2 players turning up 5mins after the allotted K-O time, it was never going to be easy.

The home side took an early lead when the Stand striker went 1 on 1 with Bowley and finished well. Albion showed some grit and determination and levelled through a Brookes free kick.

The game got away from Albion half way through the second half when 2 goals in quick succession saw the home team ease to a 3-1 win.

Manager McGuire said, “We need to show more will to win, heart and determination otherwise the results will stay the same. In training the boys can pass the ball around and all show great team spirit and enthusiasm, but on a match day this goes out of the window. We need big characters to pull us out of this difficult period. Have we got them? I’m not sure. Result will tell me”.
