Match report for Wilmslow Albion 1st Team 1 - 2 away win against Manchester Juniors (21/02/2009)

On Saturday, Albion recorded their 1st League win since the opening fixture. A day which started out badly when we lost Green and Hunt pulled out ill, Garner injured and keeper Bowley didn’t turn up!

With a bare 11 and Tommo in Goal the lads produce a fine display. With new lad Hampson in midfield the Albion made up for a lack of Class with a great display of team work, effort and desire (the likes of which we haven’t seen for a while).

With the Albion pushing forward at every opportunity several chances went by, Neary, Trainor and Baron all going close. But the home side took a lucky lead through a close range effort. 1-0. Albion continued to dominate and levelled through Hampson. 1-1.

Albion were by far the better team, and once again failed to convert several chance, with Neary shaving the post when 1 on 1 with the keeper.

Albion’s efforts got the rewards late on, when a Hampson free kick sailed over the keeper high into the net. 1-2.

Manager McGuire said: “Today the team showed real determination, and a will to win. With what happened in the morning and no keeper to win was a great result. Stand in keeper Tommo did excellenty and the entire team played their part”.
