1st Team 3 - 3 Away Draw - Albion disappointed with 1 point
2 March 2009
Match report for Wilmslow Albion 1st Team 3 - 3 away draw with Fives Athletic (28/02/2009)
On Saturday the 1st Team looked unrecognisable from previous weeks. With no fewer than 6 new faces in the squad, the team looked stronger then ever.
Club veteran Damo and Skipper Green could only mange places on the bench, whilst youngsters King and Trainor were also replaced by 3 debuts from the reserves and new boys Hargreaves and George.
Albion started brightly with both Baron & Hargreaves missing good chances. With the team looking strong and competitive it came as a shock when Five’s took the lead through a scrappy goal on the counter attack. 1-0.
Albion still looked the more dominant side, playing good football and attacking at will. But a terrible goal kick from keeper Bowley went straight to a Five’s forward who ran through and scored. 2-0 Half time.
Manager McGuire had a few harsh words at the break, and the stern talking to seemed to do the trick.
Within 20mins of the second half Albion were 3-2 up. Headed goals from Dean and Collier levelled, and Neary slotted away a penalty.
Albion continued to press forward, and had 2/3 chance cleared of the line. Unfortunately the home side equalised with minutes on the clock. 3-3.
Manager McGuire said, “What a difference I have seen over the past couple of weeks. The influx of new faces (mostly from the reserves) has given us a fresh approach. Commitment, desire and ability have all improved. The club has taken big strides forward, certainly by way of player progression from reserves to 1st team, and this has shown in the last 2 results. Let’s hope the unbeaten run can continue”.
