1st Team 4-3 Away win - A Glimpse of what could be!
24 March 2009
Match report for Wilmslow Albion 1st Team 3 - 4 away win against Salford Victoria (21/03/2009)
A glimpse of what could be!
On Saturday the 1st Team secured a much needed 3 points with an away win against Salford Vic’s.
With the strongest ever squad available, Albion dominated the 1st half and should have been more than 2-1 up at the break. With Hargreaves pulling the strings in attack and both Neary and Jenkins in support, the Albion looked a different class. First half goals from Neary and Jenkins were the least Albion deserved.
In the second half Albion continued the domination with Hargreave scoring after good work on the right from Frankie Fabowale. 3-1 Albion.
But after a couple of substitutions Albion got a little sloppy and conceded 2 preventable goals, which saw the score unbelievably 3-3. With a couple of minutes to go, Tomkinson in the Albion goals made a fine diving save. And with pretty much the last kick of the game Hargreaves smashed a dipping volley from 25yrds of the Vic’s keeper… which saw wild celebrations from the Albion team, 4-3.
Manager McGuire said, “I was absolutely certain we would win today, and I’m not sure that had ever been the case before? With the squad I had available I knew we would have too much for Salford. With players like Ant (Hagreaves) Byron and Neary all starting I knew we had goals in us. If I can field this line up over the remaining matches, we will shoot up the league.”.
