Match report for Wilmslow Albion 1st Team 1 - 3 away win against Standians (16/08/2008)

The 1st Team opened there league campaign with a convincing 3-1 win at Standians.

Wilmslow Albion got off to an emphatic start to the season last Saturday with a 3-1 win over new boys Standians.

Albion couldn’t of asked for a better start and were 2-0 up inside the first 10 minutes with Tom Brookes scoring direct from a free kick with a deflection that wrong footed the Standians Keeper and they scored again 2 minutes later from a powerfully struck low free kick hit by McGuire was too much to handle for the keeper and Jenkins was on hand to knock in the rebound. Standians were restricted to long shots and never really looked like troubling Boley. Wilmslow made it 3-0 and secured the game when after some sharp link up play between McGuire and Jenkins, McGuire's through ball was latched onto by Neary who rounded the keeper and finished well from a tight angle. 3-0 half time.

Wilmslow came out in the second half confident, but Standians made all the early running with efforts again in from long distance never troubling Boley. Albion were quieter second half, not creating many chances on goal, through the constant pressure the away side put them under.  But with Raynes and new boy Whyatt defending well all game Albion tried to keep a clean sheet, (but that was not to be), when from a corner the ball bounced around and somehow got hooked towards the goal (which looked to be cleared off the line), but the ref had other ideas and gave the goal. Albion came through this sometimes dirty affair with a few injury worries for Tuesday’s home game with Fives (6.30 K-O) with up to 5 players missing.

Injury worries!!!
