Match report for Wilmslow Albion 1st Team 1 - 4 home defeat to Monton Amateurs (30/08/2008)
Albion lost at home on Saturday to Monton 4-1. Although the score line shows a heavy defeat, all present would probably say that the score line did not truly reflect the game.
Albion got off the a bad start, when soon into the game the visitors opened the scoring with a deflected shoot, which somehow wrong footed Bowley. Albion created a couple of scoring opportunities through runs from Jenkins and Brookes, but down the other end Monton made it 2, with a sweet strike from out side the box, which curled into the top corner. 2-0 H-T.
Soon into the second half Jenkins scored a good solo goal, when he somehow lobbed the ball over the keeper from a tight angle. 1-2
Albion were playing better second half and should of made it 2-2 (even 3-2), as they created two golden opportunities, firstly with McGuire playing in Brookes, who hit a tame shot wide, and soon after Jenkins found McGuire who failed to convert the chance as his shot hit the on rushing keeper. Albion tried hard but ultimately fell short again. Costly errors at the back ensured that the final score ended. 4-1 to the visitors.
Managers comments
“Again it was an extremely frustrating day, although the team did play much better than the previous game, it is still hard to be beaten like this. We do lack in certain areas, but the most frustrating thing is we do have a good set of players, but simple individual error seem to hold us back. I feel we know where we are going wrong and over the next month or so, we hope to put it right”.
